A comment on Glen Ellyn youth hockey tournament evacuated due to carbon monoxide poisoning

Topo common a problem, and the rinks don't want to admit liability, and they blame the buses outside, but:

1. Is it the Zamboni?
2. Faulty air ventilation or furnace?
3. Failure to designate proper bus parking/grilling area?

Zamboni CO emission danger is grossly underrated as a concern, just because it doesn't stink like a bus does not make it less safe. Please follow link in above post and see video at espn: More ...

Hockey asthma rates are higher than other sports, cold may be a factor, but how much is CO to blame?

Someone needs to investigate this on a widespread basis.

Thank you.

A comment on Glen Ellyn youth hockey tournament evacuated due to carbon monoxide poisoning

We had a number of these cases in Minnesota in the 80's. Illinois hopefully has rules on checking the air in arena's that can make a big difference in seeing if this is a long term problem or not. The trauma induced asthma issues are what harmed the young players the most. Hopefully, they got to this problem early.

A comment on Village of Crestwood Supplies Contaminated Water to Residents

When the truth comes out people will be shocked to find out that they were drinking much higher levels of contaminated water.

The Illinois EPA is covering up the severity of this issue because it is embarrassing to them. They were asleep at the wheel for twenty years.

Doug Scott, IL EPA director and Blagojevich appointee should be fired.

A comment on Mentally Ill Patients Pose Danger to Elderly Nursing Home Residents

As a Nursing home administrator the pressure is constantly upon us to "put a head in the bed". I've lost jobs because I stood firmly against taking in what I felt was dangerously mentally ill residents. What happens is the older facilities are viewed with less favor and therefore to keep a census they get the most acute and mentally ill residents. This combination is alarming. The newer facilities get those residents who are there for rehabilitation (therefore the ever welcomed Medicare dollar versus Medicaid dollar). They use up there Medicare days then transfer them to the older facilities when it is time for Medicaid to be the payer source. Those who can go home in the 100 day Medicare period (those less acute) go to the newer facilities because they appreciate the newer surroundings and because of the lower amount of the mentally ill in the facility. The better (more experienced, more compassionate etc) employees also go to the newer facilities. Since they make more money they can pay higher wages and also since they don't take in the higher acute care or mentally ill the work load is lighter. It is a vicious circle.
The only way to stop this is to require all facilities regardless of their appearance to have an even number of Medicaid residents to their Medicare residents etc.

A comment on Mentally Ill Patients Pose Danger to Elderly Nursing Home Residents

Kristina:

Great blog! We recently handled a death case in Virginia where the roommate had a long history of mental illness and aggressive conduct. In a fit of rage he grabbed my client(an 88 year old gentleman weighing 100 lbs) and threw him to the floor resulting in a subdural hematoma and ultimately death.

A comment on Salmonella Outbreak: FDA says avoid foods with peanut butter

Kellog's, Nadbisco, Nestle's and most other US companies are using tainted ingredients from China thats why the we have a salmonella outbreak, there will be more food poison outbreaks to come, most processed foods frozen chicken, beef, pizzas, etc are all processed in China, wonder what a Chinese beef slaughter house or a chicken farm with all chickens having the avian flu looks like.
