A South Carolina boy is recovering from injuries sustained when he was the victim of a hit-and-run accident. The boy was playing on the sidewalk when he was hit by a car which fled the scene.

The child suffered a fractured femur which required surgery for the placement of pins to stabilize the fracture.

Under Illinois law and the law of most states, hit-and-run drivers are considered uninsured drivers. That means that any recovery for injuries susatined in a hit-and-run accident would have to be through the uninsured motorist coverage of your own policy. Uninsured motorist coverage applies even where, as here, the victim was not in a car at the time of his injury.

When you are buying or renewing your insurance, you should make sure that you have uninsured motorist coverage as part of your insurance package on your vehicle because that is your protection against hit-and-run drivers.
