Head-on collision leaves four injured

Four people were injured in a head-on collision on Connecticut. There were three people in one of the vehicles and one in the other. Three people had to be cut out of the one vehicle.
All four people were hospitalized, three in critical condition.
Accidents with multiple injuries underline the importance of carrying underinsured motorist coverage on your own vehicle. Underinsured coverage is one of the coverages you obtain when you get full coverage. The way that it works is that your insurer steps in and pays damages in excess of the coverage available from the at-fault driver and the limits of the policy.
Where there are multiple injuries, coverage can be exhausted quickly. If there are three injuries and the at fault driver has coverage with limits of $50,000 per person and $100,000 per occurrence, that $100,00 gross limits must be divided among three injured people. Once that coverage is exhuasted, the injures people must look for compensation through the underinsured coverage.
