The failure of a left-turning driver to yield the right-of-way resulted in a serious accident in Oregon. After starting his turn, the driver was struck on the passenger side by an oncoming vehicle.

The driver of the oncoming vehicle suffered a fractured neck and other injuries.

Left-turn accidents produce some of the most frightening collisions. The effect is much the same as in a head-on collision. The driver of the oncoming vehicle often has little time to brake. There is also no real room for evasive action -- the driver can move to right (moving further into the path of the turning vehcicle) or to his left (into oncoming traffic). Unfortunately, insurance companies try to unfairly fasten the blame on the oncoming driver for this kind of accident.
