Two California women are recovering from injuries resulting from a hit-and-run accident. They were crossing the street in a crosswalk when they were hit by a car which did not stop.

One woman suffered a fractured pelvis; the other suffered head injuries and an open fracture to her leg.

In Illinois, hit-and-run motorists are considered to be uninsured motorists for the purpose of making a claim under your own uninsured motorist policy. This coverage is one that you obtain when you buy full coverage, and would apply even if you are hit while a pedestrian. All relatives who reside with the insured driver are covered under the policy even if the injured person did not have a car of their own.

Any case involving a hit-and-run accident requires careful analysis of the potential for an uninsured motorist claim.
