Woman Killed in Motor Vehicle Accident on Interstate 90

40-year-old Sophia Hughes of Beloit, Wisconsin, was killed on Wednesday morning in a traffic accident. The accident occurred on Interstate 90 near Illinois 173 in Northern Winnebago County.

The woman lost control of her 1999 Oldsmobile slightly before 8:30 a.m. in an eastbound lane on I-90 near a construction zone. The car struck into a guardrail and crashed into the back of a semi-trailer truck, said Illinois State Police. The collision ripped off the drivers side door of Hughes' car and threw her onto the pavement. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Winnebago County Coroner Sue Fiduccia said an autopsy was scheduled for today. The truck driver was not injured in the accident.
