A 15-year-old Boy Scout is recovering at this home after being bit by a dog Sunday when loading a Christmas tree onto a sport-utility vehicle.

The dog was in the car and lunged at the teenager through a half-open passenger window after his owner bought the tree, said Police Sgt. Brian Gilham. The bite happened at the Boy Scout Tree lot on Canyon Road where the teen works.

Paramedics were called at 2:30 pm on Sunday. The boy was taken to Brookwood Hospital were he was given stitches inside the wound on his upper right arm, said Gilham. The boy was released from the hospital the same day and he was able to attend his final exams at school.

The pet owner who was driving the SUV is from Shelby County. Her name was not released, and it was not immediately clear whether her pet's actions would result in a court summons, Gilham said.
