Chicago Loop DUI Crash Injures 2 People

A motorist crashed his car into a van late Wednesday evening in the Chicago Loop. The rollover crash happened at South Michigan Avenue and East Congress Parkway, according to police.

Authorities reported that although both motorists were taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, neither motorist had life-threatening injuries. The driver of the car has been charged with driving under the influence.

Alcohol-related motor vehicle crashes kill someone every 31 minutes and nonfatally injure someone every two minutes (NHTSA 2006).

There really is no excuse for driving under the influence. A little planning and better choices can go a long way in preventing injuries and even death.

When planning to go out, have a designated driver; it’s as simple as that. Before taking the first sip, make arrangements for a ride home.

If unable to find a designated driver, plan for another night where one is available. If not, get a cab or take public transportation. In a city where a cab or public transportation is almost always nearby, most everyone has a safer alternative than getting behind the wheel of a vehicle after drinking alcohol.
