A truck driver died in a recent construction accident when he was struck by a load from a crane. The truck driver had just delivered a portion of a large conveyor belt system to an airport in San Jose. The machinery was being moved by crane from the trailer to the building where it would be installed when the load swayed.

The truck driver was killed instantly when he was pinned in between his truuck and the load on the crane.

Crane operations are inherently hazardous, and great care must be taken throughout the operation to ensure the safety of workers near the load. Anyone not involved in the lift should be kept clear of the load. The load must be kept under control at all times by the crane operator and through the ue of tag lines. Further, the operator must have either clear view of the work area where the load is being moved or there must be a proper communication or signalling system in place. If there is any doubt as to the safety of the lift, the load should not be moved unless it can be done with safety.

The truck driver in this case was not involved in the lift, and the lift should not have proceeded with him in the area. Further, either the crane operator or the spotter should have recognized that conditions were not safe to proceed with the lift until the truck driver was clear.
